Canvas's Slack integration delivers each user's Canvas notifications to them in Slack. A Canvas admin enables Slack for the account and supplies a bot token from a Slack app installed in the institution's workspace. Each user then adds their Slack email as a contact method in Canvas account settings, confirms it with a four-character code the Canvas bot sends them in Slack, and switches on the notification types they want, since every Slack notification starts turned off. The integration is limited to per-user notifications. Course channels, workspace invites, and posts to a shared channel (a course announcement feed, or grade-change alerts for staff) need an automation tool reading the Canvas API.
