Canvas's native Slack integration runs one way: Canvas notifications go out to users in Slack. Nothing in Slack flows back into Canvas, so creating a Canvas announcement from a Slack message, or logging a Slack thread against a course, needs Make or n8n calling the Canvas API with an access token. For the notification side, a Canvas admin enables Slack for the account and supplies a bot token from a Slack app installed in the institution's workspace. Each user then adds their Slack email as a contact method in Canvas account settings, confirms it with a four-character code the Canvas bot sends them in Slack, and switches on the notification types they want, since every Slack notification starts turned off.
Slack Canvas LMS Canvas's native Slack integration only sends Canvas notifications to users in Slack. Posting from Slack into Canvas needs Make or n8n and the Canvas API.
